Industrial Firefighting in Eastern England

£19.99

This well-illustrated book complements the author’s previous books on the history of firefighting in the counties in the East of England. It deals with the fire brigades established to protect industrial and commercial premises. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries manufacturing plants commenced operating their own fire brigades, operating mainly manual type engines, due to the lack of well organised fire brigades even in relatively large towns.

Product Description

This well-illustrated book complements the author’s previous books on the history of firefighting in the counties in the East of England. It deals with the fire brigades established to protect industrial and commercial premises. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries manufacturing plants commenced operating their own fire brigades, operating mainly manual type engines, due to the lack of well organised fire brigades even in relatively large towns.

Written by a former Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighter, the book is divided into six sections, one for each county. Within these there are chapters for individual brigades, both large and small, describing their histories and providing comprehensive fleet histories and details of the current services and fleets. The book contains over 250 photographs and illustrations, including a colour section, the majority of the photos being published for the first time.
