Product Description

On the Run: A History of Croydon Fire Brigade is a fascinating insight into the bravery and dedication of local firefighters in their duty of preserving property and life in the Croydon area. The book tells the history of the Brigade from the early 1700s until its amalgamation into the Greater London Fire Brigade.

The book is beautifully and extensively illustrated with rare, original photographs of the men, the major incidents, the machinery, the fire stations and the Croydon area. Croydon Fire Brigade had given continual service from the early 1700s through to 1965 with the exception of the period of nationalisation from 1941 to 1948. Although Croydon Fire Brigade ceased to exist, an Old Comrades Association was formed and even now after nearly 40 years, still continues as a Re-Union Assocation meeting twice a year.

This book will give an insight into the dedication of Croydon’s firemen and firewomen and the incidents which occurred during the 200 year history of the Brigade.
